Cindy was a pleasant surprise for me. All the recordings I have of Murray from 1993 on indicate a gradual decline in his vocal edge. As time progresses, he is sounding more hoarse; no surprise considering the way he sings!

Yet somehow, either by surgery or computer wizardry, Murray has progressed back to perhaps the late 80's in sound quality. He has a bit of his old edge back. He is also the stand out performer on this album. I don't mean to discredit Laam (Cindy), who has a young Celine Dion inspired sound, but Murray has ten times the feeling as anyone on the disc. He IS the song, whereas the others are merely stage actors acting the song. And at 56, he sure can out rock his costars - people likely half his age.

Aside from his performance, there are a couple great pop tracks here... but Cindy is more a collection of songs than a musical. Especially when compared to Webber shows, Chess or Les Miz and the sort. No emotional investments will be made by the listener.

Still, this is the most recent Murray Head album I own, and as such is a treasured member of my collection.
